Two local men died in a single vehicle rollover crash on East Charleston Road shortly after midnight last night.

The Sierra Vista Police Department and Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services responded after a resident in the area of Giulio Cesare Avenue and East Charleston Road reported hearing a loud crash at about 12:15 a.m. today. When first responders arrived on scene, they discovered a black 2003 Mercedes sedan had crashed in a field north of Charleston Road and east of the intersection with Giulio Cesare Avenue.

The driver, 26-year-old Hereford resident Gabriel Joseph Jerez, and the passenger, 19-year-old Sierra Vista resident Richard Andres Bustamonte, were both ejected from the vehicle and killed. Marks on the road and in the field show that the vehicle was traveling east on Charleston Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and rolled.

The circumstances leading up to the crash, including the speed and other potential contributing factors, are under investigation. Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact SVPD Police Officer Darryl Scott at (520) 452-7500.
