The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a local man on Wednesday for three counts of arson and two counts of reckless burning stemming from incidents dating from late March into mid-June of this year.

Colin Cromer

The first case connected to 26-year-old Sierra Vista resident Colin Cromer was reported on March 30 behind the Blue Horizon Motel at 5150 E. Hwy 90. The fire started in the field behind the laundry room of the motel and did not spread far, burning only some bushes and an old recliner.

The second and third cases occurred on May 25 and May 26. The May 25 fire burned part of the Staples building located at 4299 E. Highway 90, but did not cause severe structural damage that would require the store to close for repairs. The May 26 fire was set near the Fry’s Food Store adjacent to Staples. It burned a bush and some low-laying vegetation.

The fourth fire occurred on May 27 in a wash near Lenzner Avenue and Fry Boulevard. It was a small brush fire that also only damaged vegetation. The fifth fire occurred near the intersection of Highway 90 and Tree Top Avenue on June 12 when a pile of clothes was set on fire in a wash. A Sierra Vista Police Department officer put out the fire before it caused further damage.

Several other recent fires in the Sierra Vista area remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact SVPD Detective John Andela by calling (520) 452-7500.
