Hummingbird Month
The City of Sierra Vista is teaming up with Southwest Wings and the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory (SABO) to support and celebrate hummingbirds throughout the month of August! Scroll down to see the events and activities we have in store!
As the official Hummingbird Capital of Arizona, Sierra Vista has as many as 15 hummingbird species that can possibly be observed here throughout the year. Some stay year-round, while others just visit during long migrations. Either way, these extraordinary avians are an important part of our local ecosystem and have drawn birders from across the globe to Sierra Vista, especially in August when the most species can be viewed here.

Discover Hidden Hummingbirds!
Embark on a journey of exploration with a citywide excursion to discover Hidden Hummingbirds this August!
All you need is a passport and a smartphone to get started. Passports will list the general area to begin your search, but it's up to you to find and scan Hidden Hummingbirds' plaques scattered throughout the City.
Once located, use your smartphone to unlock each plaque's code and record it for that location in your passport. You can play individually or as a team, each with your own passport.
Plaque QR codes will also reveal interesting facts about one historic hummingbird and the 15 hummingbird species that can still be observed in Sierra Vista—including how and when to spot them. Sierra Vista is the official Hummingbird Capital of Arizona and has more observable hummingbirds throughout the year than anywhere else in the United States!
Plus, there is an optional bonus hummingbird plaque to scan for an additional limited-edition souvenir.
Passports can be picked up or redeemed at the Visitor Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at the Sierra Vista Public Library on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Once your passport is complete, bring it back for a prize!
