The Sierra Vista Municipal Airport is a joint use facility with neighboring Ft. Huachuca's, Libby Army Airfield. The one-of-a-kind location offers a unique environment for aerospace industry leaders, as the surrounding mountains create of bowl of protected airspace unlike anywhere else in the United States. The airport also offers air traffic control assistance, aviation, ground services, ample parking, and a 12,001-foot runway, long enough to serve any air or spacecraft.
The City completed a successful Spaceport Feasibility Study in October 2024 and is currently in pursuit of full Federal Aviation Administration part 433 licensure: License to Operate a Spaceport Reentry Site. The comprehensive and multi-step process is anticipated to result in licensure for the City of Sierra Vista by early 2027.
Opportunity also exists for capsule returns to the Wilcox Playa. The site was coordinated and cleared environmentally to serve as one of Boeing's Starliner landing sites. Click on the banner to the left for additional information!
