The City of Sierra Vista Neighborhood Commission created the Award of Excellence to recognize noteworthy individuals, groups, spaces, and actions that contribute to residential neighborhoods' comfort, resilience, connectivity, and aesthetic appeal.

Categories & Eligibility

Nominations can be made for the following categories: Property or Site Transformation/Beautification; Neighborhood Project; Neighborhood Event; and Community Building/Engagement. They're open to all Sierra Vista residential property owners, neighborhood groups, HOA’s, and community organizations. Awards may acknowledge outstanding individuals or groups, unique neighborhoods, beautiful, shared spaces, creative and welcoming events, innovative initiatives, water conservation or landscape projects, property beautification and more. Help us capture the spirit of Sierra Vista's neighborhoods by thanking those who make a positive impact.

Nomination

To be considered for a Neighborhood Award, applications must be submitted online. Nominees must be located within the Sierra Vista City limits. However, anyone can nominate an award recipient.

Nominations must include:

1. Completed nomination form.
2. Narrative on why this nominee merits recognition.
3. Letters, emails, comments, photos or additional documentation from neighbors or community members in support of this recognition.

Submission Information

Nominations for the Neighborhood Commission’s Award of Excellence are accepted year-round. Recipients are recognized at a City Council meeting with an award presented by the Mayor.

Evaluation Criteria

A variety of award possibilities means that honors for individuals, neighborhoods, shared spaces, events or initiatives will each be considered differently. Generally, neighborhood awards value:

• Demonstrated, positive neighborhood and community building impact;
• Unique contributions of time, effort, skills and/or financial resources to the community;
• Effort in engaging fellow neighbors in communication, projects, activities or improvements;
• Testimonials demonstrating neighbor, neighborhood or community support;
• Carrying out a project on public or private property that makes a positive difference to the image, character, and enjoyment of the neighborhood.

Recognition

Award winners are selected by the City of Sierra Vista Neighborhood Commission, an advisory board to the Mayor and Council on neighborhood issues and programs recognizing neighborhood achievements.
