Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller returned to work this week with a favorable prognosis after missing the Jan. 24 City Council Meeting due to an illness that sent him to Canyon Vista Medical Center.
Mueller was admitted to the hospital after experiencing abdominal discomfort on Thursday, Jan. 24, which happened to be his 65th birthday. A colonoscopy revealed that a portion of Mueller’s ascending and transverse colon had to be removed. That surgery was successful, although one of the 15 lymph nodes removed was cancerous.
“My prognosis is excellent and I’m incredibly grateful to the doctors and support staff at Canyon Vista Medical Center who did a tremendous job caring for me,” Mueller says. “I also appreciate all the prayers and support I’ve received from members of our community. It means a lot.”
Mueller has resumed his duties as mayor, although he expects to cut back on some social obligations and speaking engagements in the coming months while undergoing chemotherapy. He is expected to make a full recovery and remains in good spirits and in good health.
