The Sierra Vista Police Department took a local man into custody peacefully Wednesday afternoon after he called the police threatening to commit a shooting at his apartment complex.

Police received several calls from the man starting at about 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday. The man stated he was going to “shoot up the place” and the Sierra Vista Police Department was able to determine the call came from Las Brisas Apartments, located at 2200 Las Brisas Way.

When officers responded, they observed a man sitting outside his apartment with loud music coming from the inside. As the SVPD tactical unit arrived on scene, the man was seen entering and exiting his apartment several times while yelling at officers. At one point during negotiation efforts, the man said “just kill me.”

SVPD officers took the 57-year-old Sierra Vista man into custody without further incident at about 4:26 p.m. He was transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center for a psychological evaluation.

Las Brisas Way was briefly closed between Coronado Drive and Lenzner Avenue during the incident. The Sierra Vista Police Department would like to thank the residents at Las Brisas Apartments for cooperating with officers on scene while the situation was brought to a peaceful resolution.
