The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a local man on two counts of second-degree murder following a shooting that occurred outside of the Filiberto’s restaurant located at 735 E. Fry Blvd.

SVPD officers responded to a report of the shooting shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday and found two people with gunshot wounds when they arrived on scene. Both victims died from their wounds.

A short time later, Sierra Vista resident Devon Neff, 21, called dispatch to report that he was the shooter and claimed that it was in self-defense. Based on information obtained in the investigation, SVPD officers subsequently arrested Neff for two counts of second-degree murder at 7:30 p.m. and booked him into Cochise County Jail. A search warrant was served at Neff’s residence and evidence of illegal drug activity was seized.

The circumstances that lead to the shooting are still under investigation, however, it has been determined that the shooter and at least one of the victims knew each other.

Further information will be released once detectives finish their initial investigation. Anyone with information relevant to this case is asked to contact SVPD Detective Paul Youman by calling (520) 452-7500.
