A Sierra Vista woman remains in critical condition at a Tucson medical facility after being shot by a Phoenix man, who then apparently took his own life, as she was dropping him off at the Vista Transit Center Wednesday afternoon.

Sierra Vista Police Department officers responded to the Vista Transit Center located at 2050 E. Wilcox Drive at about 3:30 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun. The caller reported that his friend, 46-year-old Silvia Sabo, was with 48-year-old Phoenix resident James Romo when Romo pointed a gun at her while she was dropping him off.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Sabo and Romo inside a black GTI Volkswagen, each suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Romo was pronounced dead at the scene and it appears he shot himself immediately after shooting Sabo. Sabo was transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center and then flown to a Tucson medical facility where she remains in critical condition.

The events leading up to the shooting remain under investigation and anyone with information relevant to the case is asked to call SVPD Detective Paul Youman at (520) 452-7500.
