A regulatory commission, the Arts, Humanities & Cultural Diversity Commission was established by Resolution Resolution 2023-015 on March 9, 2023. The purpose of the Commission is to make recommendations to Council on General Plan process, strategic planning goals and initiatives, major projects/initiatives related to commissions, conduct research on proposals relevant to the commission’s focus area(s) and to receive staff updates on progress regarding relevant General Plan and strategic plan goals.  

A regulatory commission, the Commission on Disability Issues was re-established by Resolution 2023-014. The purpose of the Commission is to make recommendations to Council on General Plan process, strategic planning goals and initiatives, major projects/initiatives related to commissions, conduct research on proposals relevant to the commission’s focus area(s), and to receive staff updates on progress regarding relevant General Plan and strategic plan goals. 

The commission meets on a quarterly basis at City Hall.

The non-regulatory Economic Development Commission was established by Resolution 2021-089 on December 9, 2021. The purpose of the Commission is to work collectively to maximize opportunities for economic development of the City with citizen engagement and public input. Additionally, the Commission will review and support efforts to achieve the City Council approved goals within the economic development framework/strategy and specific initiatives within the current Council Strategic Plan.

The commission meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the City Hall upstairs conference room.

The non-regulatory Neighborhoods Commission was established by Resolution Resolution 2023-015 on March 9, 2023. The purpose of the commission is to make recommendations to Council on General Plan process, strategic planning goals and initiatives, major projects/initiatives related to commissions, conduct research on proposals relevant to the commission’s focus area(s) and to receive staff updates on progress regarding relevant General Plan and strategic plan goals.

The commission meets on the second Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the City Manager's Conference Room in City Hall.

A regulatory commission, the Park and Recreation Commission was originally created on October 28, 1971 by Ordinance 173 and re-established January 9, 1997 by Resolution 3729. The purpose of the Park and Recreation Commission is to advise City Council in the establishment of essential policies, procedures, rules and regulations relating to the planning, acquisition, disposition, operation, use, care and maintenance of areas and structures owned, leased or otherwise acquired by the City for use as park and recreation facilities.

The commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Oscar Yrun Community Center.

A regulatory commission, the Planning and Zoning Commission was created on July 23, 1976 by Ordinance 324, under the authority of Arizona Revised Statutes § 9-461 through 9-462.05.  The purpose of the Planning and Zoning Commission is to formulate and recommend a long-term master plan for the development of the City, make surveys of the present conditions and future growth, and hold public meetings on all proposed amendments to the City’s plan prior to going before Council.

The commission meets on an as-needed basis or as called by the Chair.  Meetings are held at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers in City Hall.

The Commission was created as the Commission for the Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, a board of directors by Resolution 4217, on June 24, 1999.  On June 27, 2002 the Commission of seven members replaced the board of directors and was designed to contribute to the enhanced recognition and economic development of the City of Sierra Vista.  On December 11, 2008 the Commission was re-established as the Tourism Commission to advise City Council on policies and strategies related to tourism marketing and visitor services. On May 28, 2020, Resolution 2020-028 was approved that dissolved the Tourism Commission and re-established it as a City Department affiliated nonregulatory Commission. On March 9, 2023, Resolution 2023-015 re-established the regulatory Tourism Commission.  The purpose of the Commission will now be to make recommendations to Council on General Plan process, strategic planning goals and initiatives, major projects/initiatives related to commissions, conduct research on proposals relevant to the commission’s focus area(s) and to receive staff updates on progress regarding relevant General Plan and strategic plan goals.
