Southwestern specialties such as painted redstarts and magnificent hummingbirds may be seen by visitors. The redstarts and hummingbirds share the canyon with many other animals, including Chiricahua leopard frogs, black bears, and dozens of species of butterflies. Entrance fees are $8 per person. Each Sunday morning, the Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park (EOP) is open for bird walks. Local docents from Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory and the Friends of the San Pedro river lead these walks. Since participation is limited, these walks are a first come, first served basis. The EOP is located  between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. Depart from viewing platform. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated.
