Environmental Merit Award applications due by June 30

Adam Curtis Public Affairs Press Releases

There is still time to honor a local person, business or group for their extraordinary support of the environment by submitting an application for the 2019 Environmental Merit Award.

The Environmental Affairs Commission will accept applications through the end of June. The commission established the award in 2017 to recognize individuals, businesses, service groups, or organizations within the Sierra Vista City limits that strive to meet or exceed the City’s environmental goals. Eligible categories include: achievement in energy efficiency or conservation, achievement in water efficiency or conservation, renewable energy programs, and recycling materials for reuse.

The commission selected Water Wise, a program of the University of Arizona Cochise County Cooperative Extension, as the first-ever recipient of the award. Bryant Sayers earned the 2018 award for his formation of the Neighborhood Response Team and that group’s cleanup efforts in the West End.

Applications can be mailed or delivered in person to City Hall and must be received by June 30. To learn more, or to download an application form, click here.
