Sierra Vista, AZ.  10/04/18. Two misdemeanor DUI arrests were made by the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force during a saturation detail in Douglas on Saturday, September 29, due to the 94th Annual Cochise County Fair.

The average blood alcohol content on the misdemeanor DUI arrests was 0.114 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

The detail was performed by the Sierra Vista Police Department, Tombstone Marshal’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Bisbee Police Department, and Douglas Police Department. In addition to the two arrests, the detail resulted in the following: 123 stops or contacts, 36 warnings or repair orders, three child safety restraint citations, six seatbelt citations, three misdemeanor civil citations, one designated driver, six civil speed citations, one criminal speed citation, and two miscellaneous criminal citations.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lists the effects of blood alcohol content at different levels, noting that even at just 0.02 percent, drivers are more likely to be distracted and less likely track the movement of other vehicles, pedestrians, and animals.

“Impaired driving is not only dangerous to you, your passengers, and other motorists, it can also be lethal,” says Corporal Tim Wachtel, SVPD DUI Task Force Coordinator. “Every day, almost 29 people in the U.S. die in alcohol-related vehicle accidents. We want to lower that number to zero.”

With the continuous support from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force reminds drivers that if you choose to drive hammered, you will get nailed. Get a designated driver, not a DUI!
