A project to replace pavement on Avenida Cochise, east of Highway 92, is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 17, and construction will continue through June as part of the City’s annual street maintenance work.
Starting Monday, Avenida Cochise will be closed from the frontage road east of Highway 92 to Calle Mercancia and this closure will remain in place for about 30 days. After that, phase two of the project will require the closure of Avenida Cochise from Calle Mercancia to Via Riatta for another period of about 30 days.
KE&G Construction anticipates being able to maintain access to all properties along Avenida Cochise throughout the project by providing alternate access points and detours. KE&G was awarded the project with a bid of about $560,000.
During the project, Vista Transit routes four and five will be rerouted north on Highway 92, to La Linda Way. The bus stop located on Avenida Cochise, near Paseo San Luis, will be closed until the project is completed. Riders can instead use the nearby bus stop located on Paseo San Luis just north of La Linda Way.
“This project will replace some old, deteriorating sections of Avenida Cochise with thicker pavement better suited for the volume of traffic now seen on this key connecting street,” says Angela Dixon-Maher, project engineer for the City. “This is the most significant project included in this year’s street maintenance plan.”
Pedestrians and motorists are advised to avoid traveling through the construction activity when possible. If travel through the area is necessary, please use caution, pay attention to all warning signs, and stay clear of any construction equipment.
