An argument on Sunday on Brae Burn Street resulted in two people being injured from a single gunshot and one person arrested and charged with multiple felonies.

Steven Hupcej, 29 of Sierra Vista, was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct with a weapon, and one count of discharge of a firearm at a residential structure.

Conflicting statements from Hupcej and witnesses led to the arrest. While Hupcej claims that he drew his gun and it “went off” when the victim lunged at him with a screwdriver, witness statements say that the victim did not lunge at Hupcej. When questioned by officers, Hupcej described the altercation, giving a statement that is inconsistent with how the bullet actually entered the victim.

One shooting victim was treated at the scene by paramedics. The second victim was transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Youman at the Sierra Vista Police Department by calling (520) 452-7500.
