Council Member Mark A. Rodriguez is originally from San Antonio, TX but has resided in Sierra Vista, AZ since 2014 when he arrived for his final Army assignment. He was first appointed to the Sierra Vista City Council in 2021 and then elected to his first 4-year term in 2022.
He spent 21 years on Active Duty and has two combat deployments to Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). He is currently employed as a government contract instructor on Fort Huachuca.
He is passionate about volunteering and still volunteers locally with various organizations. One of those organizations is Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services, where he has done monthly smoke detector checks and installations for the local community since 2014 along with other volunteers on the team. Being a Veteran himself, he understands how vital our Veterans are to our community and often volunteers for events hosted by the Warrior Healing Center and Cochise Serving Veterans (CSV), where he is also the City Liaison to the CSV Board. Being a former EMT and volunteer firefighter, he is also a big proponent of our local first responders and the chair of the Cochise College EMS Advisory Board.
He is a huge supporter of our local youth and all their initiatives and is the council liaison to the Sierra Vista Youth Council. He is also a big advocate for ensuring that youth of all abilities are included and supported by our community, so one of his favorite organizations to support is the Avengers Inclusion Organization, which promotes inclusion for all members of the community with special needs.
Our natural resources and water are also very important to him, so he attends the Upper San Pedro Partnership meetings and events, which focus on preserving the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA) and ensuring the long-term viability of Fort Huachuca. He is also a member of the Military Communities Council and Hispanic Elected Officials Council for the National League of Cities.
He is married to Nancy Ledesma and among them, they have six children and two granddaughters. In his free time, he makes time for family, his children’s and grandchildren’s school events, live music, getting a motorcycle ride in when he can and traveling as much as possible.
