The Sierra Vista Police Department has teamed up with agencies throughout Cochise County to deploy a traffic enforcement task force in areas throughout the county to make communities safer and decrease vehicular traffic collisions. The task force’s first detail took place on Friday in Sierra Vista.

The Cochise County Traffic Enforcement Task Force conducted an 8-hour deployment in the City of Sierra Vista on Friday, June 12. The task force focused on red light violations, stop sign violations, following too closely, and aggressive driving.

Out of the 77 traffic stops conducted during that timeframe, at least 22 citations were issued. The most common violations observed that resulted in traffic stops/enforcement action were speeding, red light violations, stop sign violations, and failure to yield.

Citizens in Sierra Vista likely noted law enforcement agencies from other areas of Cochise County making traffic stops in Sierra Vista during the deployment. These deployments are anticipated to take place every few months in areas that could most benefit from enhanced traffic enforcement.
