Post Date:05/25/2026 9:16 AM

Sierra Vista police are seeking a person of interest in a non-fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night.

On Sunday, May 24, at about 8:15 p.m., Sierra Vista police responded to a report of shots fired in the 2300 block of Cherry Hills Drive. A 911 caller reported someone had shot his residence. While responding to that location, another 911 caller reported he had been shot at that location and had fled the area to the Circle K in the 2200 block of Buffalo Soldier Trail.

Officers secured both locations as crime scenes and collected evidence from each.

Investigators learned that two men had met near Country Club Park for a gun sale. The seller had entered the victim’s vehicle to complete the transaction, and at some point, he exited the vehicle and opened fire on the victim’s car, striking the victim twice. The victim then fired back while fleeing the area to the Circle K. The suspect fled the area and is unaccounted for.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old man, identified as Angel Valenzuela, is wanted for questioning in connection to the incident.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Valenzuela or the incident is asked to contact Detective Mike Goodman at (520) 803-3555.
