The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a man for attempted homicide last night.
On Thursday, May 14, at about 9:35 p.m. Sierra Vista police responded to the 500 block of Carmichael Avenue for a report of domestic violence. Southeastern Arizona Communications (SEACOM) received a call where no one spoke to the dispatcher, but a male and female could be heard screaming in the background.
When officers arrived, they contacted a male subject who denied any altercation. However, officers observed a woman in the home who appeared to have been crying and seemed frightened. When officers tried to speak to the woman, the man answered for her, insisting that everything was fine. When officers asked to speak with the woman outside, the man brandished a screwdriver as a weapon, making stabbing motions and demanding the officers’ handguns.
Officers took the male subject into custody. During the investigation, law enforcement learned that there was a court order in place forbidding contact between the two individuals. Despite this, the man was at the woman’s apartment and an argument escalated into him physically assaulting her, threatening to kill her, and attempting to stab her. She was evaluated by medical services and did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
The male suspect was booked into the Cochise County Jail on several charges including domestic violence (DV) attempted homicide, DV aggravated assault, DV aggravated harassment, and preventing the use of 911 in an emergency.
