Cyclist dies in vehicle collision

Post Date:05/11/2026 9:40 AM

This past weekend, a cyclist died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing E. Highway 90.

On Saturday, May 9, at about 10:50 a.m., Sierra Vista police and Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services responded to a traffic collision on E. Highway 90 near the entrance to Fry’s Food and Drug. A passenger vehicle collided with an e-bicyclist in the eastbound left lane.

The cyclist was transported to the hospital and flown to a trauma center, and he later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, witnesses reported that the cyclist entered the roadway from near the Fry’s parking lot at a high rate of speed, crossing traffic toward the south side of Highway 90. Witness statements said the cyclist didn’t check for traffic and was almost hit by other vehicles immediately before the collision. The driver who struck the cyclist advised he did not see the cyclist crossing the road and initially thought he had struck a deer.

The driver was cooperative and submitted to a DUI investigation. There are no criminal charges at this time. This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Sierra Vista Police Department at (520) 452-7500.
