On Monday, April 6, Sierra Vista police arrested a local man for failing to register as a sex offender.

On Monday, at about 1 a.m., officers conducted a welfare check on an individual who was lying unconscious on the sidewalk on the 2000 block of Fry Blvd. Officers requested medics respond to the area, but the individual appeared intoxicated and refused medical treatment.

During a review of the individual’s personal information, it was determined that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Justice Court 1. He was arrested and booked into the Cochise County Jail. The individual was identified as being a sex offender who was residing in Sierra Vista, but registered as residing in Bisbee.

SVPD Special Operations Bureau detectives interviewed and arrested him a second time at the Cochise County Sierra Vista Jail for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender and Failing to Obtain an ID. He remains in custody on a $20,000 bond.

The Sierra Vista Police Department maintains strict oversight of sex offender registration and community notification requirements. Anyone with information relevant to this type of criminal activity is asked to contact SVPD Detective Thomas P. Ransford at (520) 452-7500.
