SVPD investigates reports of gunshots

The Sierra Vista Police Department is investigating a shooting after responding to reports of gunshots in the area of Sulger Street and Busby Drive on Monday afternoon.

At about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Southeastern Arizona Communications received several calls from residents who reported hearing gunshots in the area. When SVPD officers initially responded to the area, they did not locate anyone involved in the incident.

During the follow-up investigation, SVPD officers identified the exact location of the shooting and developed leads as to the individuals involved in the incident. Additional officers and detectives from SVPD’s Special Operations Bureau responded, securing and processing the scene. They recovered evidence of the shooting from the scene.

Later Monday evening, a vehicle suspected of being involved in the incident was located in the 900 block of East Fry Boulevard. Damage to the vehicle consistent with being struck by bullets was identified. The vehicle was secured as evidence and is pending a search warrant to retrieve evidence of the incident.

SVPD treats all reports of gunfire or violence seriously and responds accordingly to ensure the safety of residents.
