Council declares 30-day public record period for mobile medical facility code amendments

Post Date:02/27/2026 8:03 AM

At its regular meeting on Thursday, the Sierra Vista City Council declared a 30-day public record period for Development Code amendments related to mobile and modular medical facilities.

Currently, mobile medical facilities may apply for a Temporary Use Permit, which has a maximum length of 90 days. Under the proposed amendments, mobile medical units would be able to apply for a Conditional Use Permit, which would allow the City to evaluate long-term use on a case-by-case-basis. The amendment also defines mobile medical facilities and officially adds them under Temporary Uses and into the Matrix of Use Permissions by Zoning District.

This regulatory framework provides applicants with a path towards extended presence, subject to being an accessory use of an existing hospital, animal hospital, or licensed health care institution. While not intended to replace permanent medical facilities as the expected development, the code amendment would expand health care options for residents, especially those unable to travel for specialized care/treatments that are not widely available locally.
