The Sierra Vista Police Department is investigating the death of a homeless man after discovering his body in the field west of Walmart on Thursday.

SVPD officers and detectives responded to a report of a deceased subject at about 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5. They located the deceased man near a tent at an apparent homeless camp. Due to the nature of the death, it is currently being investigated as a homicide. The cause of death will be determined via autopsy by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner.

The identify of the deceased will not be released until next of kin is notified. Investigators are still working to locate next of kin.
