Yesterday afternoon, an over 2-hour SWAT standoff ensued when the Sierra Vista Police Department attempted to arrest a suspect at his home and the suspect barricaded himself in the residence. The standoff later came to a peaceful conclusion when the suspect surrendered.
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, at about 1:10 p.m., SVPD detectives went to the suspect’s home to arrest him on charges related to a six-week long investigation into an alleged sexual conduct with a minor case. The investigation began on June 25, 2025, when a report was made to SVPD of a female juvenile involved in a sexual relationship with a male adult.
Over the course of the investigation, detectives developed probable cause to arrest the suspect and went to the residence to make the arrest. While police attempted to contact the suspect, the suspect barricaded himself in the residence and refused to come out, which resulted in the SWAT call out.
Crisis negotiators made numerous attempts to get the suspect to surrender but were unsuccessful. At one point, SWAT used a breaching device to gain access to the front door and then deployed non-lethal pepper ball devices to get the suspect to surrender. Several more attempts to get the suspect to come out were made by crisis negotiators, but he still refused.
As SWAT team members were moving to another section of the residence, with the intent of deploying more pepper balls into the home, a SWAT team member saw the suspect and ordered him out of the residence. The suspect then complied and was taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m.
The suspect was charged with three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, four counts of sexual assault with a minor under 15, one count of sexual conduct with a minor over 15, and resisting arrest. He has been booked into the Cochise County Jail.
