Construction Updates

Businesses along Fry Boulevard are open as usual during construction and, with left hand turns restored Nov. 17, accessing them just got easier! Please consider stopping by your favorite local businesses to support them while this project is underway. Construction of the Fry Boulevard and Garden Avenue Improvement Project (Phase One) began Monday, July 19, and will wrap up in March 2022.

Residents are reminded to observe all posted traffic control signage, to include temporary stop signs now in place along Fry at Carmichael and North Avenues. The construction zone extends along Fry Boulevard from Carmichael Avenue to Garden Avenue. While localized traffic control measures will be required for future median and signal work, left hand turn access will generally be maintained in the construction corridor from this point on.

Fry Boulevard and Garden Avenue Improvement Project

The City of Sierra Vista is working on a long envisioned project--creating a downtown environment!

A section of West Fry Boulevard and North Garden Avenue has been redesigned using a "complete streets" approach that builds a road that meets the needs of motorized vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians alike. A complete street also incorporates public-friendly amenities (like benches, gathering areas, and lighting) that will enhance the business district.

Now construction is getting underway on Phase One of the Fry Boulevard and Garden Avenue Improvement Project. This moves forward the redevelopment vision for a town center--a top desire of local residents that was expressed during "Dream Your City," becoming the foundation for part of the Vista 2030: General Plan.

Phase One of the project brings major changes to the commercial corridor along Fry Boulevard between North Garden Avenue and Carmichael Avenue, and along North Garden Avenue between Fry Boulevard and Whitton Street. Two-way traffic and access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Residents are encouraged to continue patronizing businesses in the project area throughout construction. Commuters traveling through the area should expect some delays and are advised to use an alternate route when possible.

Please see the "Construction Updates" section on this page for the latest news about the project and refer to the "FAQ" if you'd like to see answers to common questions or ask a new one!

Public input was gathered during two public meetings, one on November 13, 2019, and one on March 4, 2020. Public input from these meetings was used to help shape the design concept. The final design combined some of the most-desired elements from the Parkway and Boardwalk concepts based on the public's input. Construction begins July 19, 2021, with the first phase affecting Fry Boulevard between North Garden Avenue and South Carmichael Avenue. Phase one of the project is expected to complete construction early 2022.

Please click on the Concept A and Concept B buttons below to see the initial project ideas that were combined based on public input into the Boardway Concept that served as the basis for the project's final design.
