The Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force made one misdemeanor DUI arrest during a saturation detail conducted in the Sierra Vista area on Saturday, May 5, due to Cinco de Mayo and the 103rd Annual Sonoita Horse Races.

The detail was performed by the Sierra Vista Police Department, Huachuca City Police Department, Tombstone Marshal’s Office, and Arizona Department of Public Safety. In addition to the DUI arrest, the detail resulted in the following: 56 stops or contacts, 43 warnings, four repair orders, nine civil speed citations, five designated drivers, four miscellaneous civil citations, one driving on a suspended driver’s license arrest, and one drug related arrest. The blood alcohol content on the misdemeanor DUI arrest was 0.158, which is nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08.

The Sierra Vista Police Department also participated in the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Mandatory Enforcement Reporting Dates Program by reporting miscellaneous traffic stats from Thursday, May 3, through Saturday, May 5, due to the Cinco de Mayo weekend. The following stats were recorded: 126 stops or contacts, nine civil speed citations, three designated drivers, one misdemeanor DUI arrest, 18 miscellaneous civil citations, and one drug related arrest. The misdemeanor DUI arrest resulted in a blood draw, so the average blood alcohol content is not available.

With the continuous support from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force reminds drivers that if you choose to drive hammered, you will get nailed. Get a designated driver, not a DUI!
