The Sierra Vista Police Department, assisted by the United States Marshals Service, arrested three suspects in Glendale on Sunday night in connection with a shooting at the Las Palomas apartment complex in Sierra Vista on May 29, which sent a local man to the hospital with not life-threatening injuries.
SVPD detectives pursued leads that led to the arrests of three Sierra Vista residents in Glendale on Sunday, June 10. Sierra Vista resident Nehemiah Ruiz-Montijo, 16, was arrested on a Cochise County Superior Court warrant for attempted homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Ruiz-Montijo was booked into Maricopa County Jail. He is being charged as an adult.
Desiree Romero, a 33-year-old Sierra Vista resident, was arrested and booked into Cochise County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, possession of dangerous drugs, assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. In addition, a 15-year-old Sierra Vista resident was referred and released for assault, criminal damage, disorderly conduct, and possession of dangerous drugs.
The shooting occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 29, at the Las Palomas apartment complex. Bystanders reported that a group of people came to the apartment complex to start a fight with some area residents. A large fist fight broke out and an individual, later identified as Ruiz-Montijo, fired a round that struck a 45-year-old Sierra Vista man who was trying to break up the fight. The man was treated at Canyon Vista Medical Center and has since been released
