Sierra Vista. AZ 09/13/16. The City of Sierra Vista Community Development Department invites local residents to participate in efforts to beautify Sierra Vista and has launched the Sierra Vista in Action initiative to make such volunteer efforts wider reaching and easier to orchestrate.
The initiative kicks off with Sierra Vista in Action Day, a new community cleanup and beautification event set for Saturday, Sept. 17, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Volunteers will meet in front of the Sierra Vista Public Library and will be assigned to one of about six projects being tackled that day. The projects include planting trees and shrubs around the library, clearing brush and weeds in Garden Canyon Linear Park, and cleaning up several pieces of public land.
While community members are invited to volunteer at the event, that’s just a start. The Community Development Department has also launched adoption programs for multi-use paths, public recreational spaces, neighborhood parks, and events. It will be rolling out new elements to these adoption programs in the coming months.
“Sierra Vista has many civic-minded residents seeking opportunities to help out and this initiative will better channel their energy and generosity to make a sustained impact in our community,” Community Development Director Matt McLachlan says.
