Officer and shoplifting suspect struck by vehicle

A Sierra Vista Police Department officer and a shoplifting suspect sustained injuries when they were struck by a vehicle in Fry Boulevard, following a brief foot pursuit this evening.

The officer made contact with the suspect in the 3000 block of Fry Boulevard at 6:46 p.m. and the suspect attempted to flee on foot. The officer pursued the suspect into Fry Boulevard, where witnesses on the scene report a brief struggle ensued. Both the female suspect and male officer were then struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Fry Boulevard. The driver remained on scene.

The male officer was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and the female suspect was airlifted from the scene by helicopter. The roadway was closed for several hours.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Sierra Vista Police Department and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
