Last call for Environmental Merit Award nominations

Adam Curtis Public Affairs Press Releases

Do you know a person, business, or group in Sierra Vista that has done something extraordinary to be a good steward of the environment? It’s not too late to nominate them for the 2018 Environmental Merit Award.

The City’s Environmental Affairs Commission will accept nominations for this annual honor until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The commission established the award last year to recognize individuals, businesses, service groups, or organizations within the Sierra Vista city limits that strive to meet or exceed the City’s environmental goals. Eligible categories include: achievement in energy efficiency or conservation, achievement in water efficiency or conservation, renewable energy programs, and recycling materials for reuse.

The commission selected Water Wise, a program of the University of Arizona Cochise County Cooperative Extension, as the first-ever recipient of the Environmental Merit Award. Water Wise received the award at the City Council meeting in January.

Nominations can be mailed or delivered in person to City Hall and must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. To learn more, or download a nomination form, click here.
