Sierra Vista, AZ. 07/01/16. For the next few months, dogs—and their people—accustomed to visiting the large dog area at Tompkins Park will be directed to a different enclosure while the grass undergoes scheduled maintenance.
The maintenance and renovations will begin on July 5 and last through September 9. During that time, the large dog area will be closed, but the small dog enclosure will be temporarily divided to allow both groups with ample room to run and play. Owners of large dogs can follow the signs to the temporary large dog entrance.
Slated maintenance work includes turf rejuvenation, aeration, overseeding, and filling in the many holes left unfilled by owners after their dogs dig through the turf. City Parks staff will also be working to improve drainage around the ramada, which can turn muddy from wading pools and water bowls.
“The end result will be a safer place for dogs to play and people to enjoy,” says Larry Ford, sports field and grounds maintenance supervisor for the City of Sierra Vista.
