Sierra Vista, AZ. 09/20/16. It’s officially fall and that means there’s just one last major opportunity to play with some clay in support of the ninth Sierra Vista Empty Bowls Project.
The final bowl-a-thon of 2016 will take place on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ceramics studio in room 405 of Cochise College’s Sierra Vista campus.
People of all ages and levels of experience are invited to hand-build clay bowls that will be given out in exchange for donations at the Empty Bowls Project event on Nov. 5. Instruction will be shared for those volunteering to hand-build bowls, while potters with some experience will be able to use the potter’s wheel as well.
Last year the local Empty Bowls Project event raised nearly $16,000 for area food banks and organizers hope to match that success again this year. Since the first local event in 2008, the Sierra Vista Empty Bowls Project has raised more than $75,000 to help feed people in Cochise County.
All materials are provided at the bowl-a-thon. For more information, contact Virginia Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
