Sierra Vista, AZ. 08/26/16. The Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force cited employees at five businesses in Cochise County during a Covert Underage Buyers detail conducted in cooperation with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control on Saturday, Aug. 20.
The task force targeted 32 businesses in the Sierra Vista, Benson, Tombstone, Whetstone, and Bisbee areas based on previous enforcement of liquor violations, complaints from citizens, and other factors. Four teams of Sierra Vista Police Department officers, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and CUBs, underage volunteers who attempt to purchase alcohol, assisted with the operation. The following businesses sold alcohol to the underage CUBs and were appropriately charged:
- Conoco Gas Station 101 Ruppe Ave., Bisbee
- Santiago’s Mexican Restaurant 1 Howell Ave., Bisbee
- Four Deuces Saloon 101 S. 3rd Street, Tombstone
- Shell Gas Station 2222 N. Hwy 90, Whetstone
- Giant Shell Gas Station 104 E. 4th Street, Benson
The remaining businesses acted appropriately by checking the CUB’s identification card, which clearly indicated he or she was under 21.
“The CUB program reminds businesses to properly check for underage drinkers and holds them accountable when the law is not being followed,” says Cpl. Tim Wachtel, the Sierra Vista Police Department’s CUB program coordinator.
