Two of the City’s annual reports have once again received awards from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for excellence in sharing the City’s financial story.

The GFOA awarded the City’s 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. It also awarded the City’s 2016 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the GFOA states in a release.

The City of Sierra Vista has received this award for its CAFR for 29 consecutive years.

The City began publishing its PAFR to provide a more user-friendly summary of the CAFR. The PAFR is designed to be easily understood by readers, while still clearly communicating key financial information detailed in the CAFR. The PAFR has received a GFOA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for six straight years.

The awards were presented to City of Sierra Vista Finance Manager David Felix. Both reports were produced in-house by City staff and are available online at by searching for “financial reports.” They cover fiscal year 2016, which runs from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a professional association servicing the needs of nearly 19,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
