Since 1994, the City has operated a successful and award-winning municipal compost operation. Through the program, the City diverts 35 percent—4,000 tons—of the community’s yard waste from the landfill each year. The yard waste is converted to high-quality compost and mulch, and made available for sale at a fraction of the retail value.
Dropping off green waste
Drop off your green waste at the compost facility, located next to the County transfer station, 7201 E Highway 90 (mile marker 325). You can drop off grass clippings, tree and shrub trimmings, weeds, cactus, succulents, and branches up to 15 inches wide and 5 feet long.
The compost facility cannot accept trash, food waste, dirt, rocks, tree stumps, lumber, metal, or construction and demolition waste. These items are prohibited in compost facilities by law.
City sanitation customers can drop off materials at no charge. Just bring a copy of your current sanitation bill.
Non-City residential customers can drop off compost materials for $5 per pickup truck load and $2 for each additional cubic yard.
