For acceptance into the Citizen Police Academy, an individual must be 18 years of age or older, live and/or work in the greater Sierra Vista area, have no prior convictions and no misdemeanor convictions involving violence or weapons, and have no misdemeanor arrests within six months prior to their application. Exceptions will be reviewed on an individual basis. There is no fee for the Academy.
After the submission of the information and application packet, the Police Department will conduct a limited background investigation. If accepted, the applicant will be notified by mail of their placement in the class. Class size is limited to 30 students and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If a class is filled, the applicant may be placed on a waiting list.
In order to graduate, the student must have no more than three absences, have participated in all hands-on exercises, exemplified conduct conducive to the goals of the Academy, and completed a minimum of one four-hour ride-along with an on-duty Sierra Vista Police officer or observation time in the Dispatch Bureau or the Animal Shelter.

All four forms should be completed and submitted together. The application deadline for the 2017 academy is Friday, June 23. Classes will be held in the police department auditorium on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. for 12 consecutive weeks starting Aug. 10.
