Citizens can gain a deeper understanding of police work and experience hands-on training during the Sierra Vista Police Department Citizen Police Academy, a 12-week course that meets every Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Police Department Auditorium.
Students will be involved with numerous activities including touring the police facility and Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center, hands-on simulated weapons training, evidence processing, and participating in a ride-along with an on-duty police officer and/or observing in our Dispatch bureau. Some other information and topics covered throughout the academy include: traffic accident investigations, gang activity, constitutional law, arrest & control techniques, drug investigations, DUI enforcement, Police Department Tactical Team, K9 Officer and the Dispatch Center.
Academy graduates will gain an understanding and get an inside view of SVPD law enforcement operations. There is no cost to the public. Snacks and refreshments are provided.
